World Car of the Year Awards 2015
The hotly-anticipated World Car of the Year Awards have taken place for 2015, and it has been a very successful year for one particular German car manufacturer. Mercedes-Benz took home a fantastic three awards, but it was not short of top quality company, either. Here are the winners of the various awards from this year’s nominations.
World Car of the Year – Mercedes-Benz C-Class
The new C-Class from Mercedes is a superb update from the previous model, with Mercedes upping the sophistication thanks to beautiful styling, a healthy amount of on-board technology such as smartphone connectivity as standard and plentiful legroom.
World Luxury Car of the Year – Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe
The sleeker, speedier S-Class Coupe stormed to the luxury car award thanks to its combination of power, performance and style. An example of this luxury is the use of Swarovski crystals in the daytime headlights – used to create a clearer beam. Another new feature is a system which leans the car into bends, much like a motorbike – this is aimed at improving comfort rather than handling.
World Performance Car of the Year – Mercedes-Benz AMG GT
The ‘AMG’ versions of Mercedes-Benz cars signify a considerable boost in power, and there is no better example of this than the GT AMG, Mercedes’ new flagship sports car. The two available models – the GT and the GT S – boast 453bhp and 503bhp respectively, with the GT S reaching 62mph from a standing start in just 3.8 seconds.
World Green Car of the Year – BMW i8
While environmentally-friendly cars have been present on our roads for years, there have been few attempts to merge performance and eco vehicles. The BMW i8 has changed this – with the look and performance of a sports car (0-62mph in 4.4 seconds) and a fantastic mileage rate (134.5mpg), this car is the best of both worlds.
Design of the Year – Citroen C4 Cactus
A very deserving recipient of the design award, the Citroen C4 Cactus has unique styling that really sets it apart from other cars on the roads. In the increasingly popular crossover model, the C4 features innovative styling on the outside, but the interior is where it really shines. Two screens are used instead of a traditional dashboard, and the mid-sized shape allows for a spacious interior.
